5 Qualities of a Good Manicurist

5 Qualities of a Good Manicurist

Finding the Right Manicurist—It’s Possible! This turns out to be a difficult task, but not an impossible one, since there’s a huge variety of manicurists to choose from in Bulgaria—ranging from very low to very high quality. My mission is for us to work together to raise the standard of manicurists, and you can read on to find out how to find your manicurist based on the following 5 criteria:

1. To be brimming with enthusiasm for their work.

This cannot be hidden or go unnoticed by the client. It’s like love—we often fool ourselves into thinking we’ve met the right person because they meet other criteria that are important to us, but if there isn’t that sparkle in their eyes, that passion, that energy, and that smile when they’re creating and when they see you… it fills the room and can be felt—and it cannot be mistaken for feigned, intelligent politeness or, even worse, the sullen expression you often encounter in many salons.

2. DO NOT CLAMP IT

After the most important criterion you should use when looking for a manicurist—I’d rank second the fact that she invests in high-quality products and doesn’t skimp too much when she works. This is something the client can sense even if they don’t know much about brands or the quality of manicure products. Having a lot of products doesn’t always mean high quality, and the price doesn’t always reflect the quality either. Often, there are colleagues who have plenty of opportunities and a desire to stock high-quality products, but they haven’t found the right ones yet and don’t know what they need. Sooner or later, they’ll come across a quality brand; the important thing is to stay open-minded and try to find the right one for them—and that happens when you’re not stingy and invest in products. It’s also important not to skimp on these products while working, and if you need to apply an extra coat, do so without hesitation. Every client’s situation is different and requires a different amount of product—if a manicurist is reluctant to use enough to ensure a high-quality manicure, or worse, skips important steps like degreasing, for example, then that manicurist isn’t the right one for you.

3. Have a desire to grow, improve, and learn about new developments in the industry.

If you stay at the same level, boredom is inevitable… both the client and the manicurist will fall into a state of apathy and tedium. The field of manicure is constantly evolving, and there’s always something new to learn—new techniques, new products, in-person and online training—as long as you have the desire to grow, the opportunities are endless.

4. Be quick, but not hasty

Here, too, a balance is needed—she should work calmly, without feeling any stress or rushing, but at the same time, her work should be organized without unnecessary delays. In this hectic daily life, everyone is chasing deadlines and schedules, but let’s not forget that we’ve come not only for a manicure, but also to treat ourselves to an hour of relaxation. Manicurists who, in their quest to be as precise as possible in their work, take up half or even your entire day—are not to be preferred—because elsewhere you’ll get the same quality in an hour or an hour and a half.

5. Be a pleasant person

Last but not least, I’d like to mention this: the manicurist should be pleasant company, and the conversation should flow naturally. Ideally, she should be intelligent, well-groomed, smiling, and sensitive to whether you feel like talking or prefer to stay quiet. She doesn’t need a college degree to be a good conversationalist. She just needs to strike a balance in how much she talks 🙂 After your manicure appointment, don’t forget to ask yourself if you enjoyed the time you set aside for pampering. Every client comes with the goal of getting a high-quality, beautiful manicure, but leaving the salon with a smile is the result not only of the final look on your nails, but also of a pleasant time spent with a kind and friendly person with whom you have common ground, someone you can talk to easily and who puts you at ease so you can trust them and relax. If the manicure is good but you feel tense afterward—then this isn’t the right manicurist for you. Because a manicurist is someone you see once every 2–3 weeks, and they end up feeling closer to you than many of your close friends and family. Everyday life is hectic, and it’s hard to find time for all your friends and loved ones—especially on such a regular basis, every month. That’s why the bond between client and manicurist becomes so close, and the energy exchanged during that one hour each month—let’s make sure it’s positive 🙂 These are the 5 key criteria for choosing your manicurist. Some people are lucky and find the right person right away, while others have to try a few to check all these important criteria, which shouldn’t be underestimated. If you're a manicurist, consider whether your schedule is full and whether you're doing your very best to be a top choice among professionals. If you're a client, find your own manicurist and don't compromise on your standards. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to message me—I'd be happy to help 🙂
